turned on and then died

Post by ndiehm »

so i plugged in my vacuum and hit the power switch and all it did was turn on and then died. it didn't even turn on all the way. it only revved up for like half a second and then quit on me. it it a dc07 first gen. it was given to us, the only thing wrong with it is that the cord is all twisted up. it doesn't coil up, it will lay straight, but is twisted. not sure if this has anything to do with it. any help?

Hi.

It sounds just like a power cord failure, especially as you say the cord is all twisted. The later DC07s had better quality cords fitted I believe. They usually break just as it enters the machine. You could wiggle it around there (but keep your hands well clear) and see it it comes on briefly to confirm.

If you're confident with these things it's not difficult or expensive (less than £15) to replace (see this topic for where to buy spares: http://www.dysonforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=17).

...and here's a guide on how to do it:

Hope you get it sorted. :)
