Retractable Power cord on DC11
Retractable Power cord on DC11
The retractable power cord on my DC11 will no longer retract. How do I take the machine apart to see if the cord assembly can be repaired?

I'm afraid I've never dissasembled one of these and I don't know of any guides on the web. However, I don't think the cable rewind is a very easily serviced part. I would reccomend replacing the cable rewind assembly. If you can't work out how to get it apart, Dyson will come and do a full service on your machine, including fixing the cable, for £73:

Thanks for the response. Do you know of some general instructions for opening up the machine so I can replace the rewind assembly myself?

No, I'm afraid not. I only found this video guide of how to replace the DC08 motor. The machines are quite different, though it may give you some ideas as to how they are generally dismantled. The DC08 and DC11 actually share the same cable rewind assembly though.

Re: Retractable Power cord on DC11
I'v fix myself few of these but the usual problem is interupted power cord which is sometime easy to replace.
In general i do not do the operatrion on your model but can give you some advices since the design of the dyson hovers is quite similar.
To inspect/replace cable assembly you need to disconnect the power cord and remove the top cover. To do so you have to remove 6 (or more on your model) screws 4 of which are behind the wheels (difficult but not impossibile to acces). After this you need to dissatach the connectors between the motor/switch and you can remove the cable assembly.
Inspect carefully all the parts and look for broken peaces. Possibile issues as per me can be two. One is broken spiral spring which i dont think is repairable. Second is rubber wheel brake stuck or broken. This brake depending on the particular case may be repaired by epoxy glue altough as per me it will be temporary solution. So better go for replacement or call dyson service. Just to mention that you follow my instructions at you own risk.
Good luck.
