Hi everyone! I refurb Dysons in my spare time. I've come across an issue with a DC07 motor which I'm unsure about and I'm hoping someone can help? I had a non working YDK type motor which when I inspected the brushes they had worn down to nothing. A continuity test confirmed the motor was dead. I had some brushes from an Identical motor which had about 30 - 40mm of carbon intact so I put these in after cleaning the copper contacts on the armature. Hey presto, another continuity test confirmed life! I refitted the motor which starts and sounds fine, but there if a faint smell of burning when I first switch it on. Is this normal when fitting replacement brushes? Or is the motor going to Die anyway? When a motor fails, what actually breaks down on them?
Thanks!

I think it's usually the brushes that go. Unlike you most people don't bother replacing them! I wonder if either the it's some smell remaining from when the last set of brushed wore through or if the new ones are just bedding in. Maybe worth running it for a bit to see if it clears up?

Been using it the past few days and the smell has reduced to virtually nothing. Thanks for the reply, I didn't want to sell it on if the the motor was going to die after the first few uses! Just got some brushes and am going to attempt to solder the wire into an existing housing for the first time rather than buy the brushes and housing ready done... Any top tips?

No I've never tried it but I would assume they use some high temperature silver on there because they must very pretty hot.
