Hello all,

I have an issue with my beloved DC35. It started giving problems a few weeks ago where by it would turn off, then when clicking the button again it would start working again. Now it does not work at all. The led's are on, and when i hold the power button the led on top flashes green.

I have cleaned all contact points on handle and battery, tried pushing the contact points out on the handle, cleaned the filter. pressed the rubber button on the handle with power button, etc.

Any other ideas? Can't afford a new one.

Thank you.

From the Antipodes,
We have a Dyson DC35 which would perhaps be four years old or so.
About eighteen months ago, it began to cut out after about two minutes. We tolerated this (new) condition and our practice was to simply return it to the charger and wait.
When placed on the charger, charging progressed for several minutes before indicating `Charge complete’.
We have tried the usual – Clean filter under tap; clean the contacts; strap the battery into place with a Nylon tie. Still the same.
Yesterday I did all of the above, and then decided to carry out some tests.
With the `MAX’ button up (low power) ;-
a) I ran it over carpet until it stopped (about two minutes),
b) I removed the battery and measured the voltage. It measured 23.5v
c) I waited for about ten minutes then ran it again. A similar result to a) above, perhaps slightly less time,
d) I measured the battery voltage again, and got 23.1v and climbing.
e) I repeated the test again. Same result.
The battery voltage has not fallen below 23v.
The ambient temperature in the house was sitting on 20°C.
All this tells me that the battery is OK and that there is a temperature cut-out doing the tripping.
Would I be correct, and is there an accessible means of adjustment?
I would prefer to NOT enter into another Dyson interchange kerfuffle as with the (mains powered) turbo-head when I ended up with eight contact names, before receiving a solution.

With regards,

It does sound like it could be the thermal cut-out to me too. I take it you have to wait a few minutes for it to cool down before it will restart? That would be consistent too.

There won't be any adjustment on the thermal cut-out but it's indicative of a blockage somewhere which prevents the air flowing and therefore removes the cooling from the motor. It sounds like you've already given it a good check over. Maybe if you highlight your previous experience to them you might have a better response from Dyson this time?
