Dyson model: DC05 Absolute
My DC05 is 17 years old. I have just completely overhauled it. The cable was badly damaged where it leaves the reel. This was repaired by dismantling the cable rewind mechanism and chopping off about 15cm of cable then rewiring it. I have replaced the filters and cleaned every part of the machine completely. As it was apart I replaced the motor’s carbon brushes but it didn’t really need them; they were only half worn. It seems to be running hot but I am not sure how hot its normal running temperature is. Is is sucking very hard and there seems to be an awful lot of airflow through the machine so I’m not overly worried. Does anyone know if carbon brushes have a bedding-in period that can cause unusual phenomena?

Sorry for late reply. After you fit new carbon brushes yes they will need bedding in.
