I was using the nozzle on my DC25 earlier and it shut off unexpectedly. After letting it cool down, checking the fuse etc I realised it only works when out of the upright position.

I can tilt the unit at a certain angle and it will cut out and start again. I noticed that the unit also cuts out when I press the roller button.

I’ve checked and cleaned the roller bar and the unit still cuts out.

Any thoughts?

Hi, when you say the machine cuts out, is this the whole machine? Or is it the head that cuts in and out?

It’s the whole machine as if the power has been switched off. If I tilt the machine it will start providing the power switch is in the on position.

If I lift it beyond around 60 degrees, it cuts out again.

I’ve just done some more investigating. There doesn’t appear to be any suction. When the machine does power up, there’s no visible vortex in the barrel.

Does this suggest a dead motor? How would that link to the tilting and pressing the head roller button powering the machine on and off?

You may have a blockage as to why the dust is not spinning around the bi, however this is related to another problem. The issue you are describing sounds like the main wire in the switch housing may have come out. In the newer style DC25's they used a different wire which doesn't get held so well in the housing.

Make sure the machine is turned off and unplugged

If you remove the switch housing (3 screws at the back behind the wand/hose)

You may find inside that the main wire is bulging out of its holder. Refit this (if it works it is a good idea to drop a little bit of glue to stop it again) You can also check to make sure the switches are connected.

If you need new switches you can find them here:
